Step by step
- Tell us where you fill now. For example, “CVS on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills” or “CVS on Austin Street.” Your ZIP code and the names of your medications are enough. A photo of your pill bottles helps but is not required.
- We call CVS. Pharmacies are allowed to transfer prescriptions with remaining refills directly to each other. You don’t need to be on the phone.
- We contact your doctor if needed. If a prescription has no refills left, we request a renewal from your doctor’s office on your behalf.
- We confirm with you. One short call to check your list, your insurance and your delivery or pickup preference.
- Your medication is ready. Pick up at 64-51 108th Street or get it delivered free anywhere in NYC.
Will my insurance work?
Most likely, yes. Your prescription coverage comes from your insurance plan, not from CVS. We accept most commercial plans — including CVS Caremark, Express Scripts and OptumRx — plus most Medicare Part D and Medicaid plans. I have CVS Caremark. Do I have to use a CVS store?
Not necessarily. CVS Caremark is a pharmacy benefit manager, not a pharmacy. Many Caremark plans include independent pharmacies like ours in their network. Some employer plans do require certain medications to be filled at specific pharmacies, or require mail order after a few fills. Will there be a gap in my medication?
No. We time the transfer so your next fill is ready before your current supply runs out. If you are already running low, tell us and we will prioritize it.
Can I move just some prescriptions?
Yes. Some people start with one or two medications and move the rest later. There is no requirement to move everything at once, although having everything in one place lets your pharmacist check for interactions across your full list.
What about controlled medications?
Controlled medications follow stricter federal and New York rules, and some cannot be transferred between pharmacies. For those, we can usually ask your doctor to send a new prescription directly to us. Call with the medication name and we will tell you what is possible.
